My name is Emma Cooper. I am Level 2, Level 3 & Level 3 Diploma City & Guilds qualified in dog grooming and the proud owner of Sparkly Paws Dog Grooming. My business was named after my beloved Westie ‘Sparky’ who was in my life for eight years after I rescued him at five years old and was my inspiration for this career. Having had him groomed at various salons over the years he never returned quite how I wanted him and was sometimes uncomfortable or extremely tired after being groomed. This is why Sparkly Paws is all about you, your dog and your needs.
I have many years and a variety of experience with animals. Whilst at Secondary School I worked on the school farm for two years, rearing and showing lambs and cattle. Once I left school I started to train as a Veterinary Nurse within a Veterinary Practice. I worked at the Vets for over two years, gaining experience in a variety of different situations with animals’ health. During my time at the Veterinary Practice I gained great anatomical knowledge of dogs. This helps me to specialise in dogs undergoing rehabilitation as I understand the movement of dogs.
Once I left the Veterinary Practices, I decided on a change of career. This was an exciting new venture for me and I started work at a busy grooming salon in Brighton. During training for my dog grooming qualification at Hadlow College I was under the tuition of Julie Harris who is very well known within the Grooming Industry. I continued working at the grooming salon for just over two years, whilst also attending college, gaining further experience in handling and preparing dogs to be groomed, as well as learning and picking up tricks of the trade.
